In 2003 Banksy travelled to Australia. During the trip he was working on the ideas of what the Blur ‘Think Tank’ album would look like. One idea included a couple embracing while dressed in full diving gear, complete with helmets on.

The diver figure would appear several times in his works. One early sketched iteration of the couple, involved both figures hugging, with the female diver holding a flower behind the male’s back, and the male diver having his face latch open and a giant tongue hanging out.

Another sketch featured the same diver couple sitting down to dinner with two rats on the ground eating fallen scraps from the table. However, it was the image you see, which perhaps is subtler than the previous two, that made it onto the final cover.
