Kate Moss (Gold Apricot)
2005
Print on Canvas
Banksy’s Kate Moss print series pays homage to the king of pop art, Andy Warhol, duplicating his iconic Marilyn Monroe silkscreen paintings with a contemporary twist. The 90s supermodel’s face is superimposed onto Monroe's hair; Moss is portrayed as Marilyn’s modern-day equivalent, both being sex symbols of their respective eras. Moss, known for her rebellious and iconic image, became the subject of Banksy's portrayal. Banksy created the original edition of 50 signed prints in 2006 on a light blue colorway. Shortly after, he released an edition of 120 signed Kate Moss prints, with six colour ways of 20 prints each. Banksy also sold 12 signed artist proofs of the Kate Moss artwork and created five works on canvas. In 2011, he painted a version of the print in the bathroom of supermodel Kate Moss herself as a surprise wedding gift when she was out of the country on her honeymoon.
